Our Commitment :

To uphold and develop an ongoing culture of inclusivity and accessibility.

Commitment to Inclusive Practice:

At CHILD we are dedicated to exploring different perspectives on development and learning. We understand that overlooking or excluding anyone is wrong and will only weaken the work we do. Research shows that those who identify as disabled, neuro-diverse or with any access needs often feel excluded from conventional educational settings. For these reasons, we consider it important to use our unique position to provide truly inclusive spaces. For us, a truly inclusive space looks like a place where everyone is able to do their best work as a result of having their needs identified, understood and met; a place where each individual is celebrated and empowered.

Below are our current action steps to realise this commitment:

·      We will form connections with other organisations championing inclusive practice, such as SEN schools.

·      We will be active in reviewing how our work and operations embody our stance as an anti-racist organisation.

·      We will maintain our presence on the ground researching, observing and having conversations with individuals on access needs.

·      We will be active in reviewing how our practice should be shaped by the above. This commitment has been influenced and developed by artists with personal experience of these issues and who have high-level training in inclusive practice – this statement will continue to be a work in progress shaped by appropriate voices.

This all sits firmly within the main mission of CHILD – to see how both artistic and education spaces can be improved and transformed by more approaches and perspectives.
